Training Principles

Unlike many contemporary programs that emphasize the competitive, "sport" aspect of the art, Connelly's Academy teaches traditional Taekwon-do. Students are expected to compete with themselves, not with each other.

Training methods include sparring, traditional patterns, and practical self-defense techniques. Our approach builds martial arts skills safely, and provides a lifelong training opportunity. Sparring in class and during belt promotion tests is strictly non-contact. However, as an elective class for senior belts, light contact sparring, with protective equipment, is available.
